Getting started
Is BorealTV available everywhere in Canada?
Yes. BorealTV serves every province and territory, not a single region. The only requirement is a stable internet connection, because nothing physical is installed and there is no service footprint to check against your address. Subscribers run the service from downtown Toronto condos and from rural properties outside Thunder Bay alike.
What exactly is IPTV?
IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television. It delivers live television channels and on-demand content over your internet connection instead of through a coaxial cable or a satellite dish. The experience is close to Netflix in feel — menus, posters, search — but with live broadcast channels running alongside the on-demand library, exactly as cable provides.
How long does activation take?
Under fifteen minutes during normal hours. After you place an order, an account specialist confirms your plan, takes payment, and emails your IBO Player playlist credentials along with a link to the setup instructions for your specific device.
Do I need a smart TV, or will a regular TV work?
Both work. Any television with an HDMI port can run BorealTV through an Android box or a Fire TV Stick. If your TV is older and has no HDMI input, an HDMI-to-AV converter bridges the gap and the modern boxes still function normally.
What internet speed do I actually need?
Budget 25 Mbps of real throughput for reliable 4K playback and 10–15 Mbps for HD. Those figures are per stream. If other people in the house are streaming, gaming or on video calls at the same time, add headroom rather than running at the minimum.
Devices and the app
Which app does BorealTV use?
IBO Player, and only IBO Player. Supporting a single application is a deliberate decision: every guide we publish, every screenshot our support team sends and every troubleshooting step refers to the same interface, which is why our first-response resolution rate is high.
How many devices can I use at once?
One device per subscription, streaming one channel at a time. You can move that authorization to a different device whenever you want by messaging support, but two screens cannot play simultaneously on a single line. Households wanting a second concurrent stream need a second subscription.
Can I use BorealTV on a Fire TV Stick?
Yes. The Fire TV Stick is one of the most common devices among our subscribers. Installation requires the Downloader utility because IBO Player is not in the Amazon store — the setup guide walks through every step, including enabling unknown-app installation.
Does BorealTV work on Samsung and LG smart TVs?
Yes. IBO Player is available directly in the LG Content Store and the Samsung Apps store, so no side-loading is needed on those platforms. Search for IBO Player, install, and register the device on the IBO portal.
Is there a mobile app?
IBO Player runs on Android phones and tablets and on iPhone and iPad. Your one authorized device can be a phone if that is where you watch — the subscription does not distinguish between device categories.
Can I switch from the app to a set-top box later?
Yes. Contact support and we move the authorization to the new device. We recommend buying hardware from a reputable source: counterfeit and cloned boxes are common in online marketplaces and they cause playback failures that are not fixable from our side.
Using the service
Is there an electronic program guide?
Yes. BorealTV carries a full EPG with seven days of listings ahead and behind, exactly as cable and satellite provide. You can see what is on now, what is next, and what aired earlier in the week on channels that support catch-up.
Can I record programmes?
IBO Player does not include a recording function. What it does offer on supported channels is catch-up, which lets you play back programmes that already aired within the guide window — in practice this covers most of what recording is used for.
Will my subscription work if I move?
Yes, and nothing needs to be reactivated. Because delivery is over the internet, moving from Ottawa to Vancouver, or from Hamilton to Montréal, changes nothing. Plug your device in at the new address and the same credentials keep working.
Does BorealTV work on hotel Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot?
Both work when the connection is fast and stable enough. Hotel networks vary enormously in quality; a hotspot depends on your signal strength and on how many devices share it. The 25 Mbps / 10–15 Mbps guidance applies in exactly the same way.
Will it work when I travel to the US or overseas?
Yes. The service follows your internet connection rather than your address. Subscribers regularly use BorealTV while travelling in the United States, Mexico and Europe. If you hit a connectivity problem abroad, support is available around the clock.
Are there religious and devotional channels?
Yes, extensively. The grid carries over 100 live Gurbani feeds from Gurdwaras in Punjab and across North America and Europe, alongside Islamic, Hindu, Christian and Sikh devotional programming in multiple languages.
Billing and support
How much does BorealTV cost?
Five options: a CA$10.99 intro month for new customers, then CA$15.99 for one month, CA$24.99 for three months, CA$39.99 for six months, and CA$69.99 for twelve months. The twelve-month plan works out to CA$5.83 per month, which is the best rate we offer.
What payment methods do you accept?
Interac e-Transfer and major credit cards. Payment options are confirmed on the order page before you commit, and all amounts are quoted and charged in Canadian dollars.
Is there a contract?
No contracts, ever. Each plan is a single payment for a fixed term with no auto-renewal, no cancellation fee and no card kept on file. When a term ends, the line simply stops unless you choose to extend.
Can I change my plan mid-term?
Yes. Contact support and we apply the unused balance of your current term against a longer plan, so you pay only the difference. Your credentials and device authorization stay exactly as they are.
Do you offer refunds?
All sales are final after activation, with two documented exceptions: a verified service outage exceeding 72 consecutive hours, which earns a pro-rata credit; and a duplicate charge, which is refunded in full. The refund policy page sets out both in detail.
How do I reach support?
Email and WhatsApp, both monitored 24 hours a day in English and French. Most tickets get a first response within twenty minutes. Technical issues involving a specific channel are usually resolved the same hour because they are routed straight to the operations team.
What if a channel stops working?
Message support with the exact channel name. Single-channel faults are almost always source-side and we reroute them quickly. Broad faults affecting your whole grid are usually a connection or device issue, and we diagnose that with you step by step.
Can I resell BorealTV subscriptions?
Yes, through the reseller programme rather than the retail price list. It covers panel access, credit-based line creation and tiered pricing for anyone selling three or more lines. The reseller page explains the structure and the application process.
Useful links: full prices are on the pricing page, device-by-device instructions are in the setup guide, and the complete lineup is on the channels page.
Still have a question?
Ask us directly — about a specific channel, a specific device, or whether your internet connection is up to it. We will tell you honestly either way.
